First Baptist Church

building an inclusive family of faith

College Student Ministry
Located one block south of the ISU Memorial Union, First Baptist has long been a vital part of the university community.  Students are involved in all areas of our ministry.  We invite you to get involved -- there are many opportunities for worship, study, fellowship, and service.

Worship: We gather for worship on Sunday mornings at 9:45.  Students are involved as worship leaders, choir members, ushers, nursery workers, etc.  We are also planning a new Taize worship service featuring meditative music, prayer and reflection.

Sunday Suppers: Our primary ongoing student gathering is a weekly Student Supper on Sundays at 6 pm.  We share a meal, followed by our weekly Bible study/program.  The group meets in the College Lounge - enter the back door of the church and take the stairs to the top floor.  Our group includes both grad students and undergrads.  About once a month, we have other activities, such as a cookout/volleyball night, Game Night, bonfire, movie night, etc.

Choir: Our choir sings all kinds of music, has a lot of fun, and welcomes students! The choir rehearses weekly while school is in session and takes a break over the summer. Mindy Phomvisay, an ISU grad, is our Director of Music.

Fellowship/Activities: Join our basketball team, the First Baptist Dunkers. (Get it? Baptist - Dunkers?) Enjoy a potluck dinners, or go on a hayride, or enjoy time spent with friends at a Game Night. We have lots of opportunities for fellowship and building relationships, and we think it is important to just have fun!

Newsletter: While school is in session, our nearly-weekly e-letter generally includes a "bad joke of the week," a devotional thought, facts and trends on campus life, and details on current happenings at First Baptist.

C
ollege Lounge: Located on the second floor of our education wing, the lounge is a place to hang out, study, listen to music, or watch TV.  It's available for use whenver the building is open.  Our Sunday Suppers and other gatherings are held here.  And we have wi-fi access!

Other Opportunities for Students: Take part in a service project, retreat, or mission trip. Get involved in drama, work at our Music Camp for kids, serve as a worship leader, sound system technician, or youth trip chaperone. And more!
